Rest

    Artist Bio

There are at least 3 artists called Rest: Rest from Ireland: Instrumental Progressive Metal Rest began life in late 1999 as Wretch. In 2001, the name was changed and a new direction was pursued as the band disposed of vocals. A two track demo was recorded following the change in direction, as the band continued to play sporadically around their home town. Soon after, Rest began gigging more frequently, and, in 2002, played around the country for the first time. Numerous gigs around Ireland with numerous bands followed while the four piece wrote the material that what would become their debut album. Along the way, they were fortunate enough to come into contact with the people who would eventually go Out On A Limb and release their album, Burning in Water, Drowning in Flame. Cue more gigs. In 2005, bassist Mark departed the ranks, while the remaining trio of Graham, Steve and Johnny continued to write. As the year drew to a close, Rest headed into the studio with Ciaran O'Shea to record a two track EP, which again has seen Rest move in another direction. In early 2006, Limericker Colm was welcomed into the fold, filling the vacant bass position, ahead of the planned release of their as-yet unnamed EP, which, it is hoped, will see the light of day in very soon on Out On A Limb Records. The band will also embark on their first British tour in April when they support Cult of Luna. The new 2 track EP named Operation: Impending Doom was released on January 7th 2007 on Out On A Limb Records. After touring extensively throughout Ireland and the United Kingdom, sharing stages with the likes of Isis, Cult of Luna, Oxbow, Baroness, Torche, Zu, Red Sparowes and Explosions in the Sky, the band returned with a new LP, I Hold The Wolf, their first since 2004's debut album Burning in Water, Drowning in Flame in February 2013. Comprising eight songs and 56 minutes of music, I Hold The Wolf was six years in the making. The album, which is available in both digital form as well as double heavyweight vinyl, was recorded at Data Studios, Kerry, mastered by James Plotkin, and was released on the bands' long-standing (and very patient) label Out On A Limb Records. Just as 2007's Operation: Impending Doom EP represented a marked departure from the sound of their debut record, I Hold The Wolf found the band moving their sound forward in new directions. The album is a mutant hybrid of intricate technical riffs, classic-rock influenced guitar harmonies, frenetic and propulsive drums, doomed out psych rock, uplifting Yes-style prog passages, analogue synth sounds, Sabbaths' pummeling down-tuned grooves and Black Metals corrosive, relentless and hypnotic crescendos. Rest's albums are available at Bandcamp Rest from Italy: Rest were born in 1998 (originally as a duo consisting of Fabio and Peppe) and their firt phase featured post-rock, hardcore and alternative sounds. They recorded two demotapes in 1999 and 2001. They gained a distribution contract with LoudBlast Records with 'Nothing'. In 2003 the band starts to push more experimentation out, Fabio leaves the band, Cosimo replaces him; from 2005 to 2006, the band explores the fields of ambient and electronic music thank to the synths of Cosimo delVecchio. Currently the band is a trio consisting of Giuseppe Chiumeo (guitar, vocals), Ruggiero Lanotte (drums) and Cøsimo Summo (bass, mac). They've recorded an EP, 'No one knows what means the clean', which covers the latest production of the band, focused on groovy, slow and powerful sounds guided by the frantic Ruggiero drumming. Rest from TN, USA: Rest (b. 2007) is a four-piece instrumental group who's sole desire is to express through music their thoughts and emotions associated with the reality that is present in their hearts. Their debut "EP" was released in the summer of 2008 and their full length album "Ten Thousand Talents" was released in the spring of 2010. Rest from Czech Republic: Rest is a Czech freestyle rapper.
